This week, I continue my written interview with leading patent litigator Jennifer Wu, founder of an exciting new IP litigation boutique, Groombridge, Wu, Baughman & Stone LLP. It is always a pleasure to share with this readership the perspectives of fellow IP litigators, especially when they are poised, as Jennifer and her partners are, to move from strength to strength as they start their new firm. The ever-changing nature of our profession can be both daunting and exciting, but the vision and spirit of IP lawyers like Jennifer help propel our slice of the profession forward.

Now to the remainder of my interview with Jennifer. As usual, I have added some brief commentary to Jennifer’s answers below but have otherwise presented her answers to my questions as she provided them.

Prices ranging from $1 to several millions.

I’ve never been a fan of the phrase “Women lie, men lie, money doesn’t.” I generally don’t care about pots calling the kettle black or roses being just as sweet by another name, but that particular phrase about money not lying makes me start seething à la Ghiaccio. It is plainly just not true! Money lies all the time! Not even in the sense of say one American dollar has a higher exchange rate than the Kwacha — American dollars aren’t even equivalent to each other: just take this set of two single dollar bills that sold for $100!

Now you might think that this pedantry over semiotics has no real bearing on the law, but you’re wrong! If people would have lead with the question of How Much A Dollar Costs, then maybe Sabre wouldn’t have to fight against

Man Holding “Hire Me!”A lot of employers aren’t going to hold it against them because law firms overhired in 2021 and now there’s no work. Employers are pretty forgiving about that because it’s out of the control of the candidate.

— Julie Brush, Bay Area-based founder and CEO of Solutus Legal Search, in comments given to the American Lawyer, offering a bit of hope for the associates who were recently laid off from Cooley. She said though they may feel “demoralized,” hiring firms won’t necessarily hold it against them because they had no control over the situation.

Is Donald Trump hanging onto even more classified documents? Those who say don’t know, and those who know don’t say. Or perhaps more accurately, no one knows, and yet they’re all willing to say he’s clean as a whistle — just not under oath.

As of this writing, Trump’s lawyers are back in US District Court in DC explaining to Chief Judge Beryl Howell why nobody on Team Trump will step up to the plate to be custodian of his records. So weird how no one wants to say under penalty of perjury that Trump complied with the five-month-old subpoena and handed over all items bearing classified markings. It’s not like when Trump’s lawyers finally hired an outside firm to search, they found two more classified documents this week.

Oh, wait …

As the Washington Post was first to report yesterday, prosecutors are now
